International Applicants Karazin University

On November 17, 1804, Karazin University held the first solemn event in its history. 216 years ago, the outstanding enlightener Vasyl Karazin, with the support of the nobility and city administration, received the Affirmative Charter from Emperor Alexander I. Back then, Karazin University was named the Kharkiv Imperial University. It pioneered Kharkiv higher education and eventually became an integral part of Ukraine's intellectual, cultural and spiritual history.

Kharkiv University is associated with the names of world-renowned scholars, researchers and educators. This is the only university in Ukraine where three Nobel Prize laureates studied and worked. They are biologist Ilya Mechnikov, economist Semen Kuznets, and physicist Lev Landau. Among the University Doctors Honoris Causa is the first President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi. The names of its graduates are perpetuated in geographical names, names of space objects, plants and minerals, laws and formulae. More than 65 graduates of the University became full and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

For more than two centuries of existence, Karazin University has made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian society, gave a strong impetus to the transformation of Kharkiv into a powerful scientific and cultural center, the educational capital of Ukraine. Today, the University rightfully occupies the highest positions of all-Ukrainian rankings among classical universities and is well known far beyond Ukraine.

The University has long-standing traditions of international cooperation. It is a member of educational and professional associations. The world scientific community acknowledges the University’s significant role in training highly-qualified specialists in different fields. Karazin University occupies high positions in the national and international university rankings.

All these years, Karazin University has changed and adopted the best world practices. It is the only Ukrainian higher education institution that is included in the top 500 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings.
