Training of students is ensured by seven departments:
- Department of Ukrainian Language;
- Department of History of Ukrainian Literature;
- Department of History of Russian Language;
- Department of Russian Literature;
- Department of History of Foreign Literature and Classical Philology;
- Department of General and Applied Linguistics;
- Department of Journalism.
Currently, the School has more than 100 highly-qualified specialists, in particular, three academicians of the Higher School Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, twelve full professors, 46 associate professors, and 50 instructors.
The scientific groups of the School are headed by the leading scholars:
- Yurii Bezkhutryi, Doctor of Philology, Full Professor;
- Volodymyr Hutorov, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor;
- Iryna Moskovkina, Doctor of Philology, Full Professor;
- Liudmyla Pedchenko, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor;;
- Mykola Filon, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor;
- Liubov Havkina, Doctor of Social Communications, Full Professor;
- Yevheniia Chekareva, Ph. D. in Philology, Associate Professor.
The School trains specialists in five fields: Ukrainian Language and Literature, Language and Literature (Russian), Applied Linguistics, Language and Literature (Latin), Journalism. Graduates in Language and Literature (Latin) also complete a course in English Language and Literature, graduates in Language and Literature (Russian) are also trained as literary editors. Graduates in Ukrainian language and literature are specialized in the Polish language, they can also be qualified as teachers of Ukrainian as a foreign language.
The School is a powerful center of the humanities in the field of Ukrainian, Russian and general linguistics and literature, social communications. The School offers a postgraduate program in Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, Russian language, Russian literature, foreign literature, theory and history of journalism, as well as a doctoral program in Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, Russian literature.
Every year, the researchers of the School publish up to 200 works in Ukrainian and foreign periodicals, collections of materials of all-Ukrainian and international conferences, they publish monographs, dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference books, textbooks for higher and secondary schools — more than thirty titles in the last few years.
The Master’s degree graduates of the School of Philology can work in the fields of higher and other types of education, television, radio, newspapers and Internet journalism, in the field of culture, trade union and public activities as teachers, translators, literary critics, literary employees, correspondents, editors, librarians, press correctors.
